In odd years, there is more power to your vote than on even years because fewer people show up to let their voices be heard. In 2013 in Dallas county, only 8.5% of the registered voters had a say in changes to our laws that year. Not 8.5% of the people. 8.5% of the registered voters. That's a pretty scary thought. 91.5% of the registered voters did not care enough what happened with the laws being passed in 2013 to show up for the vote. How is this even happening?
Surely, in Dallas county, we care about our Homestead exemption, how our taxes are allocated, gun rights to name just a few things on the ballot in 2015.
Please register this year and vote. Our right to vote is one of the most important freedoms that we have. Here is where you go to register to vote. It is easy, painless and takes just a minute or two. Do it today. You have until 10/5/15 to do so for this year's vote.
