Welcome! Mesquite has long been known as a retail destination in the metroplex. In 1959, the city lead the way with the very first air conditioned, enclosed mall in the Southwest. It set the prototype for malls in the area with large anchor stores, many small shops, bowling alley, movie theater, Woolworth food court and arcades. Then, Town East Mall was constructed. It is still a major shopping destination for many on the eastern side of the Metroplex.
Skyline Industrial Park has 300 acres of businesses; making Mesquite the largest concentration of industries on the east side of the Metroplex. One of the largest intermodal facilities in the country is located in Skyline Industrial Park. It is operated by Union Pacific Railroad. The project has recently added 3,500,000 square feet of industrial/office space and 500 acres of business park is under development at I-20 and future site of State Highway 190.
Being served by 5 major highways,( I-20, I-30, I-635 Highway 80 and state highway 352), Mesquite has easy, fast access to any location in the area. There is also a corporate airport in Mesquite.
Mesquite has won the Texas Urban Forestry award. It is designated a Tree City USA and a bird sanctuary.
in fact, the city has won several awards in the past few years. They received Best New Industrial Project 2000, national City Livability Award, national League of Cities Award of Excellence, and Texas Economic Development Council gave Mesquite the Community Economic Development Award of Excellence.
